Science behind our products

Our first product - Compostable poop bags are made from cornstarch, PBAT and PLA.

Cornstarch is a key ingredient in compostable poop bags. It serves as a natural base material that can be transformed into biodegradable plastics like PLA (polylactic acid). The cornstarch is processed to create a material that has the strength and flexibility of traditional plastic but is fully compostable. When you dispose of the bag, microorganisms in the environment break down the cornstarch-based material, allowing the bag to decompose naturally without leaving harmful residues behind.

PBAT (polybutylene adipate terephthalate) is a biodegradable plastic combined with PLA to improve flexibility and strength in compostable poop bags. It breaks down naturally in composting environments, leaving no harmful residues behind.

How are compostable bags different from biodegradable bags?

Compostable poop bags are designed to break down entirely into non-toxic, organic components like water, carbon dioxide, and biomass under composting conditions, leaving no harmful residues. They meet specific industry standards for compostability and contribute to nutrient-rich compost when properly disposed of. In contrast, biodegradable bags may decompose over time but the term is less regulated, and they can leave behind microplastics or toxic substances. Therefore, compostable bags offer a more environmentally friendly alternative compared to general biodegradable bags.
